The house rules settler

Every table plays Shithead differently, and every table is certain. Fine. Pick your rules below, and we'll turn them into your table's official rules card: shareable, printable, laminate-able. Argument over. (The argument will not be over.)

Opening

Lowest card opensWhoever holds the lowest card starts, instead of left of dealer.

Sevens

Sevens go lowerOn a 7, the next player must play 7 or lower.Sevens strictly lowerA 7 still triggers the descent, but another 7 does not count.

Eights

Eights skip insteadAn 8 skips the next player rather than being invisible.Eights do nothingAn 8 is just an 8. Plainly, and without ceremony.Threes invisible insteadThe 3 does the vanishing and the 8 is just a card. A whole school of thought, apparently.

Nines

Nines do nothingSwitches off the descent and keeps the pile climbing.

Burns

Burn ends your turnAfter a 10 or four of a kind, play passes on instead of going again.

Jokers

Jokers reverseOne or two jokers in the deck reverse the direction of play.Jokers force pickupA joker makes the next player pick up the pile.

Pickups and play

Voluntary pickup allowedYou may take the pile even when you could play.Face-ups played from the tableFace-up cards are played directly off the table instead of being picked up into hand.Failed blind card stays downA losing blind card goes back face down for later instead of joining your hand.

Finishing

No finishing on magicYour last card must be an honest one. Going out on a 2, 8 or 10 means picking up the pile.
